June 2019 Concert

20/05/2019 21:23

MHO, Market Harborough’s very own orchestra, is preparing to give its 19th concert under the baton of Stephen Bell on Saturday 22nd June at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church, Northampton Rd, Market Harborough.

The title for this concert is “In Ireland” as the British, Irish and American composers for this programme were all influenced by the folk songs of Ireland. We are playing Stanford’s lovely ‘Irish Raphsody’ which uses the well- loved tune of ‘Danny Boy’, and Northampton composer Malcolm Anorld’s lively and tuneful ‘Irish Dances’. We will finish the first half with Hamilton Harty’s ‘In Ireland’, a piece for solo flute, harp and orchestra, which captures some of the wild beauty of Ireland with its sweeping melodies and snatches of folk tunes. In the second half we are delighted to be playing our first symphony by a female composer, the American Amy Beach, who wrote her haunting and lovely ‘Gaelic Symphony’ in response to Dvorak’s ‘New World’ symphony. Do come along and listen, our aim as always is to provide the opportunity to hear great orchestral music live in our home town
